Dear Log,
Another Bruce Sterling moment happened to me yesterday: I was watching TV, and it rebooted.
The Tivo that is. It went thru several screens: "Starting up. This will take a minute" and "Installing new Tivo software" and "Starting up. This will take a minute" and "Rebuilding database. This will take a long time". After about ten minutes, it came back up with a new (3.0.something) version of the Tivo software -- which is exactly like the old software, except that my shortcut for 30-seconds-forward doesn't work anymore. Dangit.

I was watching something recorded, so when the Tivo was back, I just picked up where I'd left off.But no, I wasn't watching anything in realtime TV -- I've barely seen an hour of realtime TV total since I got this thing a month ago!

That's almost fine then. Personally speaking, I'd rather it do its update trick when not being used. I wonder if it would have done it while recording something.
Hmm. commercials. Erg.Re:Disturbing

I think it assumed that because it was 3am (on the dot) and I wasn't recording anything (the last programmed recording for the night was 2:30-3am), it was safe to reboot. Kooky.
