Dear Log,
Western Europe as time-warp? Sure, why not. Personally, I have the feeling that New Mexico, where I live, is solidly stuck in 1983. It's not so bad. Cable TV is catching on! But cell-phone coverage is not so hot. Ahwell, give it another twenty or thirty years. I'm thinking of going to the shopping "mall" and getting one of those new Atari 2600s!!
... and play it semi-regularly. It's the only console I own. (I own one NES game, but no console.) It's even sitting out shamelessly in my living room where people can see it when they come over.
Yeah, I know. I'm stuck in the 1980's.

Y'know, there's actually a way to get an Atari 2600 handheld.:) Re:I have an Atari 2600

Oh, yes. I missed the initial slashdot report that caused this site's hit count to skyrocket, but I've been following the VCSP for almost a year now. Someday, I'd like to build one, though I will NEVER tear up my Atari; I'd have to get another one. Another idea I've had is using Stella, the cross platform Atari emulator (now GPL'd according to sourceforge) on some embedded system driving a little TV like BenH describes; with this method you could have every Atari game available on your handheld. I'm not a hardware guy, but I'd enjoy trying to get real controllers to interface with Stella.
If only I had all the time in the world.
:)
