Dear Log,
As a Slashdot thread about intellectual property says, "A lot of people think they have no negotiating ability. You do."
I extend that
approach not just to deal-with-the-Debbil intellectual property clauses,
but also to the whole thing about "oh and by the way, pee in this cup so
we can make sure you're drug
free!".
"Why?"
"It keeps our insurance rates down if we do that."
"What have the oily grifters that work at insurance companies ever done for me? As little as they possibly can, and less. So now I'm returning the favor to them. And the fact that your HR people can't keep the insurers in check shouldn't be my problem. Speaking of insurance, you didn't mention anything about domestic partner benefits. Did you forget?".
If there's one thing I've learned (and relearned, and relearned) it's that being "agreeable" with job benefits gets you absolutely nowhere, fast.
