Yes, Perl is cartoon music.
But Lisp is Frank Zappa: Complicated. Weird. Unique. Quite well spoken. Amazingly prolific. Influential in some very good ways. More praised than appreciated.
And almost completely impossible to enjoy actually listening to / programming in. That is, most people can get like a bit of it, but only a few weirdos can like all of it.
Zappa ended up with lethal cancer and Lisp ended up with Scheme.
