Lisp history, as represented in "Evolution of Lisp", disdains the many many repeated attempts to elaborate a non-Lispish syntax on top of Lisp semantics. "It's just a phase that intermediate Lisp programmers go thru" is the common opinion. But I'm starting to suspect that just because it's a phase that people abandon, doesn't mean it's a bad idea. To the contrary -- maybe it's what needs doing, and that new people giving up on it is just what happens when you train (or bore) people to conformity.
