Dear Log,
After copious preparatory napping in the afternoon, and then vigorous exercise de-icing my windshield at twilight for a supermarket run, I spent most of last night finishing up the draft of one of the final chapters of my book. Of course, I meant to just proofread it and tie up one or two loose ends, but at the last minute I came up with a new and better way to organize the whole thing. So I pulled everything apart and spent all night putting it back together again in the new order.
In other news, much of what I spent the past few years writing in The Perl Journal is going to appear in three new books from O'Reilly that will be out this summer:
- Computer Science & Perl Programming: Best of The Perl Journal
- Web, Graphics & Perl/Tk: Best of The Perl Journal
- Games, Diversions & Perl Culture: Best of The Perl Journal

My MacPerl article was canceled from the book. That's OK with me
... much of the content is out of date anyway (I'd actually not recommend anyone to use the techniques in the article anyway, except as a last or second-to-last or
n-to-last resort or whatever), and there wasn't going to be much interest in it, and I'd have to add a disclaimer to it. Bah.
BTW, I finally read your last TPJ article about Unidecode, on the train ride to NYC, and really enjoyed it. Thanks.
