The achievements of Canada are many. But highest among them, I count this:
When an American columnist has a psychotic episode, the results are horrendous, and usually involve loudly praying for holy H-bombs to fall on all those Mexican Arab superpredator gay-married deadbeat gang-member welfare crack moms in Congress.
But when a Canadian has a print-mediated nervous breakdown, he still manages to mostly be coherent, and to say things like "The Bush administration has managed the nearly impossible: to turn democracy into a disreputable slogan", until eventually pulling his jacket over his head and hiding under his desk and sobbing "why doesn't Quebec like meeeeee?". It's cute! And civilized.
