Dear Log,
Let us now praise the brilliance of India, which took Brahmi script (functional, a bit klunky), and spent centuries souping it up into the weirdest prettiest thing on Earth: Sinhalese, my favorite script.
How'd they do it? The usual explanation is that it's something to do with using palm-leaves for paper, where drawing a straight line would crack the material, thus fostering no end of swoops and swirls instead.
But I think the reason for Sinhalese looking so trippy is a simple, natural cause:
Drugs. Lifetimes spent chugging, smoking, and snorting a wide variety of vast amounts of powerful, mind-bending drugs.
Because any script that strange just had to have come from people who were seriously baked.
