Dear All,
In my world-spanning quest to avoid real work, I'm thinking about localizing Adventure (or a similar favorite text-based game) to Haida. So... does anyone have a favorite implementation of Adv, or of some other text game they can recommend?
Somewhere around here, I have an ancient old-style Fortran source for an Adv implementation, but I remember not being able to make heads or tails of its Fortran. That was years ago, but my total inexperience with Fortran is still, well, total. I could handle Basic just fine tho! And if anyone has already implemented Adv in Perl, well, I wouldn't mind having a look at that at all!
Instead of something really baroque like Adventure you might want to consider writing something on the Z-Machine, what powered things like Zork, Planetfall and all those other Infocom games. There's a bunch of modern implementations out there and free games to go with. That way you can concentrate on the translation and not so much the hairy programming. In fact there's two implementations in Perl. Games::Rezrov and Language::Zcode.
My personal favorite in minimalist gaming: Pick Up The Phone Booth and Die.

Or localize Adventure in Inform. Here's the source for Adventure in Inform.

How about a localized Z-Machine in Parrot? Dan would love you forever for this. Of course, the rest of the community would hate you because Dan might effectively cease to exist at that point.

Yaaay! This is the best! I googled for this, found flailed hopelessly. This will help immensely!
