Chilling the fuck out

Dear Log,

After yesterday's Pod::Simple::* code-a-thon, I'm taking it easy today. The breathtaking weather is making this very easy. Global warming sucks, and will probably kill uncountable millions in the next few decades, but I have to say it's making for some great summers here in the Southeast Alaskan Islands.

BRING IT ON

I believe that's been the sentiment of everyone who lives north of St. Louis. As a Michgander I can probably speak for the whole state when I say:

"So what if Global Warming (if it's real) melts the ice caps, drowns the coastal cities, and causes typhoons to rage across the planet? BRING IT ON!"

Well, I actually live in St. Louis, and I say "Screw the grandkids; I'm cold NOW!"

AFAIK, it *won't* drown any coastal cities.

People keep saying that icebergs melting will increase the sea level, but the truth is that a melted iceberg takes just as much space underwater as it did before melting.

You don't need to know much about ice to understand this. Ice takes up more space than the water it contains.

Try putting a bottle of water (preferably a plastic bottle) on the refrigerator until it freezes... It will probably crack.

When the icebergs melt, the ice turned into water takes up the space it was filling under water... and that's it!!

Now if they were talking about the atmosphere decreasing, or something like that... cof, cof :-)

He said icecaps, not icebergs.

Being Portuguese really sucks when it comes to less used words...

I just consulted a dictionary...

My apologies :-\
