"ooooo pretty patterns"

I was telling a friend recently that I'm learning weiqi/go/baduk. And I said: "I have decided to not consciously learn any strategies, and I'm trying to play just visually/intuitively.
And sometimes I go 'ooooo pretty patterns'."

The person I was talking to said: "It will be very tough to learn intuitively. Many Go [weiqi] plays are counter-intuitive and require deeper understanding."

I replied, "That's assuming your goal is to win. But I prefer to think of weiqi games as more like participatory visual art. And the point, for me, is not using the forebrain."

I think I'm deliberately "not doing the thing that nobody had ever thought of not doing", to quote Peter Schmidt and Brian Eno.

I'm saving my forebrain activity these days for the Pod parser I'm plodding away at.

Interesting thing a friend of mine resolved to do this year: every few days, read a canto of the Dao Di Jing and write down what it means to him, on the principle that he'll forget it otherwise, just like they say you'll forget your dreams unless you write them down. Sorta like commenting code.
