Food; Flash

Dear Log,

Today I went to a pot-luck dinner held by one of the local tribes. Everyone loved my Cucumber and Orange Salad (the recipe for which appears at the end of the source for HTML::TreeBuilder); and I got to chow down on lots of local specialties, including wonderful nummy beach asparagus (which is a sea vegetable, not actual asparagus), and a few servings of cooked herring eggs on kelp, which has a neat al-dente texture.

Also, I actually saw ooligan oil in person for the first time. I thought it'd be like nam-plah, but instead it was like light gravy, except just a bit fishy smelling. I didn't feel compelled to try it tho.

Later, at home, I tried doing some interactive stuff with Flash, using the built-in quiz templates. Awful awful awful. Nightmarish.

"Potluck"

I noticed a few years ago that Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary doesn't have the definition of "potluck" that you (and I) use, but I see that the current edition has added it as definition 1b. I wonder how new the meaning is, and whether there's been any influence from "potlatch" (though that's probably a stretch).
