Dear Log,
I live in Ketchikan, a fishing and tourism town on Revilla island, in the very south of the Southeast Alaskan archipelago. We're about 600 miles north of Seattle, but have about the same climate -- except there's even more rain here. It rains almost every day, to the point that this is the rainiest town in America.
When I moved here, I expected that the near-constant rain would mean that there wouldn't be many cats here. Especially since Alaska in general is dominated by dogs everywhere you turn, and that's beside the other wildlife that's sure to frighten cats into cowering inside.
But occasionally the weather breaks and it's bright and sunny and verdantly warm.
On those days, it seems that all the town's cats come outside, to investigate the newly dry weather. Some are more friendly, and others are more reclusive. But they all, all, love to bask in the sun, just to make up for all the days spent hibernating dreaming their kitty dreams.
Reading your illustrated entry reminded me of reading a children's book. Sheer delight!
