I was at an electronics store the other day to get a new mouse, and the screensavers on the LCD monitors were all showing screen-savers that were supposed to look like the "falling green letters" from the Matrix, from that horrible future where advanced technology is all 100%-green uppercase letters and some bits of Japanese kana. It was sad.
Incidentally, I got an optical mouse which, unlike the optical mice of old, works on any surface -- including the cat. It makes the cat hiss, though.

As it is, the representation of information in the Matrix films incorporating falling letters and kana on the screen may not be all that far from a reality as we endeavour to represent more information within a single viewpoint. We can already see the increased visualisation of information within a single viewpoint by way of overlapping and layering of application windows, virtual screens and multiple workspace viewports. The employ of a larger character set representing more advanced tokenisation of concepts and language constructs within a cascading viewport to represent motion and state fluctuation may not be all that unlikely a scenario.
Then again, I could just be full of it:-)
