Paleographic eras

Dear Log,

My grandmother addressed an envelope to me in handwriting, notably in her not terribly unusual (for the period) Spencer-script handwriting. The address was correct, notably the all-important zipcode.

The post office returned it to her as undeliverable, presumably because they (the machines or their drones) couldn't read her handwriting! You know you're old when your cursive handwriting is in a style that people haven't just stopped using, but can't even read anymore!

Note to self: address letters in Old Church Slavonic and/or Keen Galactic.

Not knowing what Spencer script is, I entered "Spencer-script handwriting" into Google, and what do you know, it's a Googlewhack, returning this page.

But images.google.com returns lots of hits for "Spencerian". And after having seen samples, I don't know why it would be considered illegible.

This is pretty illegible for a mail sorting robot.
