Dear Log,

While I was working on the RTF book (now, finally, shimmying its way thru production), I got terribly behind on CPAN module development. Ugh. Now to catch up for months of backlog.

I went to the library today to sit down and code, out of range of Net distractions, but found that it closed earlier than I thought. I walked down a few blocks and sat down on a rock ridge overlooking the Gastineau Channel. And then two massive cruise ships went by, each smoggifying and leaving a huge wake. It totally scrambled my qi. Or maybe it was that I was sitting on rocks instead of the usual expensive leather chair. My needs are simple but well upholstered.

Cruise Ships in Alaska

Um, the law in Alaska prevents cruise ships from blowing smoke while they're in Alaskan waters. You shouldn't see any smoke or smog eminating from a Cruise ship at all in Juneau. They wait until they're a few miles south of Ketchikan in Canadian waters to blow out a week's worth of smoke and suit. If you do, bring some binoculars, a digital camera and send proof to the proper authorities. Some big honkin' cruise company (probably Carnival or one of it's many splendored subsidiaries) will be fined, and that means more income for Alaska!

And just remember, that "huge wake" is the sight of outsiders leaving their money behind in the land of the Midnight Sun. :-)
