Cross-Platform Conferencing Software?

Theory on 2004-04-06T16:39:37

Suddenly I'm getting a number of requests to do Bricolage demos via conferencing software. I tried to join a WebEx meeting yesterday, but it didn't like any of my Mac OS X browsers or the versions of Java they had installed (browser sniffing == bad!).

I'd like to use Mac OS X software to conference with folks using Windows and other platforms. I can use my old Windows 98 SE box if necessary, but I'd rather not. Anyone know what the options are for good cross-plaform conferencing, and what works and what doesn't?

Thanks,

David

Dave,

If you don't need sound, maybe VNC would fit the bill? I have only used it 1-to-1, but this post implies 1-to-many works okay:

There's usually some port fortwarding to do on your side, but it's very simple on the client side - any web client can connect and use the applet viewer.

Otherwise I would bite the bullet and fire up the windows box. It's just not a good idea to experiment with potential client demos.

It's "David."

VNC was my first thought, but according to their FAQ, it isn't currently available for Mac OS X.

The next version Apple Remote Desktop is supposedly based on and compatible with the VNC protocol.

Oh, that's cool. I did discover OSX VNC since my last post. It works very nicely!
