Following my trailblazing fun with MySQL 4.04 (which I now plan to use in production a lot more, as it is pretty cool), it looks like I have a new Postgres to play with.
The new postgres seems even more competitive with Oracle and now has the ability to drop columns (at last) so that updating DB schema's won't require dropping and restoring whole tables complete with associated triggers and sequences.
Hopefully I will have time over christmas to write an article for one of the LAMP journals on full text searching against MySQL, Postgres and a little on how it differs to Oracle and SQL Server.
