I think search engines are interesting. There is so much you can do to make sense of collections of documents and essentially find a needle in a haystack.
I noticed another lightweight article on searching - this time in PHP at onlamp and whined about the lack of decent literature on the subject when Acme pointed me at Managing Gigabytes which should fulfill my reading requirements so I can write nice elegant searchy stuff thats fast as well as good.
