..it gets everywhere and just when you think you won't have to tear out any more nasty little sprouts you face days of extracting dirty corrupted data from dodgily kludged and denormalised databases.. rewriting thousands of awful 'query's and sifting through hundreds of hidden VB code.
I am so looking forward to the day I never have to work with that POS again.
Anyways - my freelance project draws to a close.. I have managed to migrate the data from thousands of text files into a MySQL database and built a full-on administration system and small content management system single handedly.
Going back to work with VBScript and Access today after spending the weekend and most of last week hacking perl was utterly unpleasent. Nothing feels more fraustrating than bodging applications on that godawful platform. To be utterly frank ASP offers little more that Apache::Registry and CGI.pm. There is no compelling reason to use ASP, PHP is way better and even that is a poor substitute for a decent Model, View, Controller approach like Apache, Mod_Perl and TemplateToolkit - or bundled as AxKit or OpenFrame.
