I just had a quick scan of this article and am left with a sense that the article was researched for all of an hour on google.
The web services section didn't actually cover web services. The database section doesn't mention the many commercial ODBC solutions or that if you are using Java or Perl then there is plenty good support using the languages native Database Interfaces. Even if you were porting a c++ application to Linux you would surely look at QT and others who provide a database abstraction layer that would render ODBC obselete.
Bit of a mediocre offering from a supposedly expert magazine that reckons that Apache and QMail are just too hard.
