Goodbye TPJ?

Dear CMP,

I will not be renewing my subscription to Sys Admin magazine when it expires in a "few short months". The only reason I was subscribed was for the The Perl Journal content. That content is few and far between. The quality of the other articles varies between awful and barely acceptable. A special price of $39 is not that special, when the superior sister publication Dr. Dobb's Journal is available for only $15 a year.

Perl is not just for system administrators -- Real programmers use it too. I expect an article advertized as "Compiling Palm Apps on Linux" to tell me how to develop Palm Applications, not how to use a specialized and specific toolkit. I don't need step by step instructions on what links to click to download a file, and then instructions on how to untar it.

Please return TPJ to it's place as an independent journal. Quarterly publication is just fine. At that point, if you can recover the inertia and support it once had, I will think about resubscribing.

Sincerely,

/R/

I've found the content of The Perl Review to be on par with The Perl Journal of old and it seems that it's just getting better each issue.

Ah, but where is the July issue? Enquiring minds want to know.

It's online now! (I believe they posted it sometime last night.)
