It struck me this week that my $DAY_JOB is pretty unique. In the span of a single day, i might be dealing with many languages: C, C++, Perl, Python, csh, sh. (Not to forget "Artist-speak" and "Manager-speak" of course. And elisp gets a honorable mention.) Then there's Linux, IRIX, Solaris and OS X. SOAP, Sun-RPC, Qt, threading, and databases. I mustn't forget terabytes of data, (ok.. not _directly_ - but I've got 15GB of data sitting on a disk for a test next week.) Multimedia, real-time systems, and streaming video. And there's stuff that just doesn't categorize -- one-offs like webcams.
On an average day, I'll deal with a handful of the above. On a less than average day I'll touch in some way or another 90% of the above. That scares me. But where else would I be in such a position?
This paragraph was going to talk about Thursday, which was a "touch almost everything" day.
