First against the wall

When the software revolution comes, first against the wall needs to be developers who write software for deploying code to thousands of remote servers, but still require you to click [ OK ] for each installation and offer no scriptable workaround.

Let me guess:

Java?

Not sure. One friend had this problem with an application which upgraded Oracle database all over the US. Our company is has an app with this problem, too, but I can't name it.

Oh dear god, the Oracle installer is a bloated Java piece of poop, that requires (afaik) that you use their gui. I know of no way to automate it.

I have to use my Solaris box and redirect the X display to install it on remote machines. Fortunately, I only have to do that rarely.

Indeed. Module::Install must die.

That wall is getting pretty crowded, isn't it?

Interactive Automatic Installations

I remember seeing some program whose "solution" to needing interaction during installation was to script cursor movements and clicks. If you watched an installation, you would see the cursor moving on its own, selecting options, and clicking on dialog boxes.

I wish I were kidding.

My god, I laughed myself silly over that one. Thanks :)

The wall just got bigger...

I'm also reminded of this WTF.
