Referring to the graph on long term trends it appears that Perl is on the rise overall, albeit there is a large amount of scatter to the data.

Scratch that, the asterisk markers indicate PHP on the rise. Sorry for the confusion, pretty tired today.

I read that, based on the way they perform their rankings, if you came out with a language called "XXX", you could get to the #1 position rather quickly. :)
