Update: OK, it's out of my system, so it's time for a rethink.
People who do stuff for free get tired of being attacked, insulted, told they're doing it wrong, etc. While I don't agree with how he handled it, I do sympathize with his dilemma (and if you don't know the context, that's probably for the best.)
