Registering Namespaces

I've noticed a number of CPAN authors have registered their namespaces. I see that this gets your module on the long Module list, but is this any particular benefit to registering?

I registered my first couple of namespaces (July 2003) and they still don't feature :( This list is considered to outdated now, according to the Module Authors list. As it was being updated manually and all the cool kids now use search.cpan.org these days, no-one seems to have been bothered with keeping it up to date.

I got Games::Bingo registered in May 2003 if I recall correctly - I simply registered to get on the module list - too bad if this no longer is practised :-/

During registration you specify some flags indicating the status of your module etc.:

These are:

Development Stage

Support Level

Language Used

Interface Style

License

A.S.O.

This is all VERY useful information and I have met people having reservations about CPAN, simply because they cannot get a clear picture of the state of a module aso.

So this information and registration could be put to good use in my opinion - eh, what do we need to do? should we do something about it?

Yep did all that, but although they got posted to the modules list, the main file hasn't been updated :(
