This morning I woke up to not being able to log in to get my email on ted (the server running axkit.org). Unsure what was wrong, I tried to ssh in. No joy - it just sat there waiting to connect...
Since I no longer have a monitor, this left me pretty much fscked.
From trying to ssh in with -v I could tell that things were running, just v.e.r.y. s.l.o.w.l.y.
Last time this sort of thing happened it was httpd. When you've got 5 or 6 httpd's all using 100% cpu, the load goes up pretty easily. But the only change I've made (which I did yesterday evening) was to delete a bunch of log files and restart the httpd. I'm buggered if that screws up a server!
So I rebooted it. Everything came back pretty normally, and I carried on with my day.
Just now though, it's happened again. But I'm at work this time. So I can't just reboot. I guess I'll do it when I get home.
So if you can't access axkit.org, you know why (if someone could post a link to this journal entry on irc.rhizomatic.net/#axkit, I'd much appreciate it).
