Kill a spammer

Matts on 2003-08-01T08:13:46

Last night it seems the VP-RX (penis enlargement pills) spammers stepped up their actions. Not sure if it was just against me, or if everyone felt this.

In one night I received about 100,000 identical VP-RX spams. All to me. Another account got over 5000. I have still to account for all of it.

The onslaught appears to have stopped at 7:30am.

I'm pretty sure it was a personal attack. It was actually useful for me because I'm alpha testing my spam quarantine code at home. Now I know it scales well :-)

Spammers

Well your entry reminded me of some of the many sci-fi/horror movies I have seen over time.

I think the spammers must have a had a conversation like the following.

spammer1: "fire away!"

pause...

spammer2: "hmmm nothing, its like it is only growing stronger"
spammer1: "my god, its feeding on it"
spammer2: "RUN!"

silence...

It has stopped for me...

Well, I stopped getting loads of bounces from spoofed users on my domain, altho I still get my (un)fair share of SPAM each day (about 30 non-bounces so far).

Are spammers reading this??

My bounces have only increased. My new filter script, has accumulated tons of spoofed addresses to my domain. Curiously (or not) most names are for Perl Mongers either on use.perl, perlmonks or CPAN.

So although the spammers may not be reading this they are probably scraping it.

As it happens...
