OK, probably *everyone* knows this already, but if not, here goes:
In Finder, right click (ctrl-click) the toolbar and select "Customize Toolbar..."
Now drag the new-in-jaguar "Path" button to your toolbar. Click "Done".
Now you've got a *much* easier way to go up directories than the column-view method of moving the scrollbar or using Apple-Up. And you can jump up multiple directories at once.

If you command-click the folder icon/name in the window title, you can also see this path menu. This also works in Safari (allowing you to move back towards the server root).
Indeed, this folder can also be dragged to other Finder windows, and even the Terminal, and with none of that ugly Cocoa toolbar nonsense, either.
Best of all, both of those tips work even in Mac OS 9 (and possibly back through to 8.5, although my memory gets a little hazy here).

Yes, it works in Mac OS, along with what I use: cmd-up/down arrows. If you have something selected, cmd-down opens it. If you cmd-up, you go up a directory.
