I've not run across this before, hadn't even considered how easy it would be to do, but today I ran across a talking banner ad (for Botox of all things).

Can the end of civilization really be that far off?

It looks like a good solution for some people, but since I do graphic design I tend to look at a lot of flash sites so it would probably be overkill for me. Maybe a block list option in addition to the white list would be a good choice for some.

Thanks for pointing it out though, maybe I'll start using different profiles to do my surfing, and use it for general browsing.

You may find AdBlock to be the solution to your problems. If you use Opera it has a similar filter technology built-in, but doesn't have a nice GUI to configure it. You can be selective and block mostly adverts, without out imparing site functionality. I don't know about Konqueror or Safari, but I assume it's possible there too. If you are unlucky enough to use IE, then I feel your pain...
