Smooth "not as smooth as I'd like" Wall

I've been planning on getting my old firewall replaced for months. After a short adventure with E-Smiths SME server (which unfortunatly still uses ipchains), I bumped onto Smoothwall. I got the 24 meg ISO for the Beta from their site and installed it. After a few moments of swearing and cursing, I more or less got it to work. I submitted 2 bug reports so far.

WARNING: DO NOT LOOK UNDER THE HOOD!

mmm let me stress that...

Smoothwall's Webbased UI, although written in Perl, is really dirty. It will probably blind most of you by just looking at it. It doesn't use strict, it doesn't use warnings, it doesn't use CGI.pm and worst of all.... it uses Perl 5.005_3. Yes, I am talking about a beta distro that's been released only a few days ago, is still using a 3 year old Perl release. I'm not asking for 5.8 YET :) Just 5.6.1 would be nice :)

Anyway, if I ever get drunk enough, I'll probably start rewriting some of the GUI backend and see what comes of it. I subscribed to the smoothwall gpl mailing list so we'll just see how open they are for patches and stuff :)
