What else to do on a hot summer evening than to go to the movies? I finally went to see the Da Vinci code. I read the book before the whole hype. The movie is not as bad as some critics say.. but it's not super either. It's entertaining enough. Audrey Tautou seems a bit more grown up. She's not the playful girl she was in Amelie. It's not Tom Hanks' best part but he's so so. Although I love Jean Reno, his performance as a grumpy french secret service agent is just above average. I expected a bit more there. I missed some pieces of the book that would've helped the story. If I wouldn't have read the book, I'd have a hard time tying some pieces together. I found 'Deception Point' less commercial. The Da Vinci code book has a pretty high 'Hollywood-esque' tone and was practically begging to be turned into a blockbuster. I still don't get where the title comes from. Yes, Leonardo is mentioned in the first 20 or so pages but adds no real mystery to the story. Another point where it all feels a bit too spectacular to my liking.
