My new laptop has wireless onboard. It's an Intel Pro 2200BG network card (BG being both g and b support). I assume it's a Centrino chipset. I can't get it connected properly with my 3Com OfficeConnect AP. One of my neighbours (somewhere) has an open AP... but I'd prefer to use my own. I tried defining static network data.. I tried with running a DHCP server on my AP... Nothing seems to work properly. I can connect to my own AP with my 3Com g card.. and I can connect to the other AP with the Intel onboard card but I can't seem to mix :(

I can't speak for everyone, but I've never had much luck with those builtin wireless chipsets on laptops.

I've installed wireless networks for two different friends with new laptop with the builtin wireless. Neither lappy worked worth a damn, esp with WPA against Linksys G or DLink G Extreme stuff.

In the end we ended up just getting a pcmcia card. Problem solved.

I'll probably test my PC card 3Com and see if I can connect with that one.. I'll hook my old laptop to cable anyway, now that it is moving the the office :)
