For some people, cabling actually means taking the powerdrill and make their walls look like swiss cheese... because you're the cabling guy.
mmm powertools....

Looks like I'll be that guy very soon...
I've got my hands on a 4-port ethernet 10/100 switch so I can *FINALLY* cable up both my bedroom and the roomie's bedroom to the cablemodem, while still using the primary linux box as a firewall.
The biggest benefit to this, is that I can move a secondary linux box to the living room for access by the non-computer-owning roomies, instead of the now-primary one, and also gain a good deal of bloody privacy so I can finally be able to concentrate on work without having gangs of people troop into the livingroom at all hours, sometimes just as I've sat down to work, generally additionally begging that I allow them to control the 'sonic environment' (i.e. I'm listening to AuralMoon's http://www.auralmoon.com/ live stream) and/or additionally 'mind if I use the computer?'.
*sigh*
It's amazing I can get anything done.
Now all I gotta do is scare up a roll of CAT-5 and some ends and clippers. Oh, and some way to reliably make the cable strewn everywhere look esthetic.
(..."one that looks nice.
.. and not too expensive..")
