On thursday, we visited Tivoli where we stopped at the Villa Adriana, a huge area where the emperor Hadrian had a rather vast villa covering 2.5 to 3 square kilometers. In the afternoon we stopped at the Villa D'Este which, besides the well preserved frescos has a large beautiful garden with over a 100 (hundred) fountains. In the late afternoon we visited the catacombs of San Callisto where an 83 year old flemish monk guided us for about an hour thru the maze.
