One thing I learned as a linguist: anything that can be done with a shoebox full of index cards can be done better with software. The thing is, the system has to be simple, or people just won't use it.
XP story cards in YAML: flexible, easy to modify, can be displayed in a zillion different formats, cross-language compatible.
