The Perl Developer Workshop was today, and it was a very interesting and engaging affair. Wide-ranging topics were discussed. Chip Salzenberg discussed plans to write perl in C++, a project he calls topaz. The main purpose behind it is to make the perl guts more easily maintainable.

Perhaps the highlight of the day, though, was a talk by Ted Nelson of Project Xanadu fame, dicussing a program he designed called ZigZag. ZigZag is a bit complicated to explain, so we won't try, especially since we are very tired and any attempt to explain it would not do it justice.

Larry Wall closed the all-day event with discussion of his XML and Unicode work.

BOFs and movies will plague the evening tonight.
