Well, it's taken me 6 weeks of evenings and the odd weekend, but I'm proud to say the new http://www.perl.org/ site has just gone live.
This is a complete redesign and content review. Hopefully it's cleaner and easier for people to actually get the information they are after.
Whilst I was at it I also implemented this skin for http://dbi.perl.org/ and http://learn.perl.org/ (which needs a lot more loving now you can actually see what's there... not much).
My work (http://www.foxtons.co.uk/) have donated some of my time, and also some of the designers on my team's time, without which it would have taken even longer.
So enjoy!
A++

Congratulations, I was happy to discover and appreciate that your modernisation effort did not throw out the Google juice with the bath water.
I like it

That does look very nice, and you can tell your bosses that it's made me think quite nice things about foxtons for the first time in... oh .. would "ever" sound too long ??
Grant for learn.perl.org
reneeb on 2009-11-13T15:16:33
There is a running grant for learn.perl.org (see
http://news.perlfoundation.org/mt/mt-search.cgi?blog_id=18&tag=learn.perl.org&li mit=20 ). So anybody who wants to help to improve learn.perl.org can talk to Eric...
Nice.

As a qpsmtpd user I was also happy to see some develooper in there, among the other stalwart orgs. Is there a 'making of the perl site' Combust blog entry somewhere?

Love it!
Now use.perl.org should be next ...
What happened to old job database?
rybskej on 2009-11-16T11:39:11
I like the new UI. Much more modern.
But what happened to the old jobs.perl.org database? I see only two postings on the new site, and one is listed as filled. And where is the ability to search by telecommute?
The old Hansen/Rolsky jobs.perl.org database is still available at
http://jobs.perl.org/search. Isn't this database going to be integrated into the new search UI? I always found this database to be far more useful than generic staffing firm listings, which seems to be the majority of the content now shown on the new jobs.perl.org UI).
Or is the new jobs.perl.org a fork from the old engine?
Ignore my ignorance
rybskej on 2009-11-16T11:44:51
jobs.perl.com != jobs.perl.org
But my early morning mix-up does make me wonder whether a union of the two might better benefit the Perl community...

jobs.perl.com is run by o'reilly publishers - so there isn't any way to join them.
Thanks! A! Lot!

Nice layout - modern and clean.
Now we can recommend the website without getting stupid comments like with the previous design.
And last but not least this definitely helps to get rid of the perl-is-old-nonsense... sure, that accounts for the superficial people, but there're many of them.
Yet Another Thanks

Thank you for all this great work!
