$foo Magazin #4

I just found $foo Magazin #4 in my pile of mail. Every time I get one of these I learn a little German. I still don't read enough German to make out a sentence, but the code is easy to follow. :)

In this issue (that's "Ausgabe" in deutsche, my German word for this issue), if I've translated things correctly:

  • Object-oriented Programming with Moose
  • Caching in Web Applications
  • Voice over IP with Net::Sip
  • Perl 6 Tutorial
  • Slices
  • Sessions in Catalyst
  • Excel in Perl
  • various news and interviews

This also reminds me that I'm teaching at Big Nerd Ranch in Frankfurt from 28 April to 2 May. I'd forgotten about that! I'll talk about that more after the holidays since I'm trying to organize a European tour for me to visit as many user groups as I can. I'm especially keen to visit as many places in Germany; although the Christkindlmarket in Chicago serves authentic German food and I've been overeating there, it's not the same as eating German food surrounded by Germans instead of tourists. :)

Minor nit: it's "Ausgabe", not "ausgabe" -- German nouns are always capitalised.

If you'd like to visit Vienna, I'm sure Vienna.pm would be delighted to meet up! Our regular meeting are on the first monday of each month, but we usually have no problem to do emergency meetings.

for people who can read german: http://www.perl-magazin.de/. Brian was mostly correct but missed the book review of "Intermediate Perl", "ExelPerl", and an introduction in the Template::HTML::Compiled which is a brainchild of one of our longtime member. I want also mention that my perl 6 tutorial was just the first part of it. next part im currently writing on and will apear in next issue.
