brian_d_foy writes "Are you a student who wants to hack Perl over your summer break? Let Google give you a big bag of money to do it by participating in their third Summer of Code! Last year, students got $4,500 for their work. This year that could be you.
The application period begins on March 14 and ends on March 24. Coding runs from May 28 to August 20.
For more information, see the Google Summer of Code FAQ."
ends in next week!
Is this for real? I don't see Perl anywhere on this page:
http://code.google.com/soc/I haven't even heard anything about it yet this year. I checked google's page on March 1st and it said "come back later in March." I come back later in March and it says "one week left!" I'm on about 8 active perl mailing lists including pm_groups and the last mention of SOC was on jifty-devel on March 1st.
Did something go wrong? It almost sounds like google decided they don't like Perl this year.
If *I* haven't heard anything, how many students will have heard about perl-related projects as an option?
