Tim Bunce posted to the dbi-users mailing list an announcement that begins by these touching words: "The first public release of the Perl DBI was ten years ago, on the 12th of October 1994."

DBI is undoubtedly one of the most popular perl modules ever, and Tim (its author) published a roadmap of planned developments. Meanwhile, the Perl Foundation set up a DBI Development fund for the users of DBI to give back and ensure DBI's future enhancements -- for the next ten years.

DBI has been and probably always will be THE far and away most popular module in perl. Without it and CGI, perl just wouldn't have succeeded in the way it did.

Surely you jest, strict is the most popular :) DBI is only second.

If people did "use strict" as much as they did "use DBI" the world be a happier place. :-)
