What did you say the cost of a pint (OK, 500ml) of beer was in Braga?

OK, 330ml about 70/80 euro cents.

88p a pint. Woohoo!

I wonder how that will compare with the price at the London Perl Workshop

Not favorably for the London Perl Workshop. A pint's about double that, maybe three times as much (depending on the beer). OTOH, that's a darn sight cheaper than most other places in London.

The bigger question is: what are the good Portuguese beers? I'm not familiar with any. I'm not saying there aren't any, its just that I've not heard of any.

On that, I can't help. I just don't drink beer at all.

There is a multitude of quite nice lagers, Like Sagres, Imperial, Super Bock. Nothing special. Beer is only widely drunk in the last twenty years. Before that every bar had a vat of wine or two, and bottled beer. Now it is the other way round.

When in Portugal, drink wine. Or port. Or vinho verde, or amendoa amarga, or any of the fantastically foul spirits.

Talking about port, I need to ask Marty if he liked the port wine bottle we offered him!

What are the dates for YAPC::EU::2005? (The original posting didn't appear to mention them.)

The conference will probably take place in the beginning of September, but the dates are still being defined.

you can easily find beer as cheap as 50cnts a bottle, in a normal bar you'll pay 1 euro (.33 litre)

Congrats

Fluorescent orange fishnets are the way to go :)

At first glance, I thought that "fluorescent orange fishnets" was the answer to the question above of "What is a good Portugese beer?".
