Creation of YAPC::Europe Foundation announced

Richard Foley writes "The YAPC::Europe committee are pleased to announce the formation of an official organisation responsible for the encouragement of Perl Conferences in Europe." More details inside. The new committee will be part of YAPC, which is part of YAS, also known as TPF. Does anyone else remember when YAPCs were run by one or two individuals with lots of energy?

Founded in the Netherlands, the current board also has members from
England, Germany and France. Adhoc committee members will be co-opted from
relevant countries based on experience, usefulness, (and a certain willingness
to do all the work :)

The current committee consists of the following worthies;

                Norbert Gruener
                Ann Barcomb
                Philippe Bruhat
                David Lacravate
                Nicholas Clark
                Richard Foley

With help from:

                Eric Cholet

The aim is to provide a focal point, organise on-line registration, mailing
lists, technical and conference advice and to generally support activities
encouraging Perl Conferences and Workshops in Europe.

The YAPC::Europe website is (still under construction...):

                http://www.yapceurope.org

The public mailing address to reach all committee members is:

                committee@yapceurope.org

The current YAPC::Europe::2004 conference is being hosted by Belfast Perl Mongers:

                http://belfast.pm.org

YAPC is an offshoot of YAS, also known as TPF (The Perl Foundation).

They still are!

They still are! YAPC::Europe is being organised and run by a very small group. Richard made it very clear in his announcement that the new committee is not responsible for running the conferences, just for encouragement. The organisers need all the encouragement they can get.

One two...

YAPCs are still done by only a few people. TPF is there to help out where needed, usually one or two people do all the organizing, and may have some people helping out with certain details. But, it's really one or two people doing the bulk of the work and making sure it all comes together.

And believe me, all the help you can get is a Good Thing. It helps double teaming people with phone calls, faxing, emailing, answering questions and helping keep a mild bit of sanity in the days leading up to the con.
