Tony pointed me at this interesting press release: "Sophos, a world leader in anti-virus protection for businesses, today announced that it has acquired ActiveState, a North American software company that develops anti-spam software for enterprises and professional tools for open source language programmers". Early indications are they Sophos want to continue with ActiveState's language tools as well as the anti-spam stuff, but time will tell. Update: davorg points at this letter to AS customers.

time will tell how the acquisition plays out for perl, python on windows. Activestate did a good job with python, a fair job with perl (fix up modules and CPAN) and a great job with the docs.
If you want any indication what is in store for Activestate check out the board. Hardly the type to *hand out* hippyish freebies like distributions and docs.
