Ask Bjørn Hansen writes "It's hardly news to us that Perl is the best development tool around, but it's still nice that Linux Journal has recognized so in their 2003 Editors' Choice Awards."
I was recently asked by someone why I had chosen Perl over the newer and "sexier" Python or Ruby.
I basically told them that Perl actually works for me better in almost every situation where I would use a scripting language.
Then that someone told me how Python enforces readability and Ruby (blah blah blah)...
Mr. Wall gave me the answer:
But I think Larry Wall sums it up best: [18] "The very fact that it's possible to write messy programs in Perl is also what makes it possible to write programs that are cleaner in Perl than they could ever be in a language that attempts to enforce cleanliness. The potential for greater good goes right along with the potential for greater evil."
Well said I think...
