search.cpan.org Changes Colors

As part of the TPF Auction at OSCon last week, Graham Barr auctioned off the right to change the color of search.cpan.org for one year. Although a consortium to keep the color the same won the auction with a bid of $1025 dollars, Graham is being a good sport and changed the site's color to orange for a period of 30 days.

If you do not like the orange makeover for search.cpan.org, Graham announced that he will return CPAN to its original color one day sooner for each $100 donated to The Perl Foundation.

Shocking colors?

Guess the color needs to be a little more shocking, like Light Baby Blue, or Deep Pink, because when people start to like the orange, who's gonna donate.

But maybe another donation should be set up to "keep that nasty orange for another 30 days for all who like it!". Just to make sure many is coming from either side.

(And those who can't decide can donate to both)

for those lacking $3000

and really hate the orange, there are couple other search engines to choose from; http://kobesearch.cpan.org, http://www.perldoc.org/, and http://wait.cpan.org/.

Will they be up on the auction block next year? Maybe everyone can get their favorite color in, somewhere.

Graham says no. We've done this joke once, and once is enough.

Since when was once ever enough in the Perl community? ;) Some jokes never die. (Or in Perl parlance, maybe I should say deprecated humor is never actually removed. I know Perl 6 will prove me wrong. :) )
