davorg writes "You all know, I'm sure, that Perl 5.8.0 has recently been released. But did you know that the Perl Foundation has created a press release to publicise this new version? If you have access to any press people, then please point them at the press release. Let's see how many column inches we can get about Perl over the next couple of weeks."
I think that this qualifies as "stable"? Then it's about time that the text at <www.perl.com>'s download page got updated. It now still says:Jarkko Hietaniemi, release manager for Perl 5.8, said, "Perl 5.8 is not only the most feature-rich version of Perl yet, but thanks to our extensive testing it is also the most robust and widely available Perl release to date."
The current version of Perl is 5.6.1. This is a stable, tested release that you should use in production environments.

Even though I can be slow putting things on perlfoundation.org, I am faster than ORA folks:) Re:Yes, but is it stable?

However proud I may be, I'm also old and cynical. Nasty bugs can take weeks to surface. I'll give it a few.

It was I who edited the final version of the press release so they're my fault. However, as of its arrival on the Perl Foundation website it's out of my hands. So you want to speak to TPF's webmaster, Kevin Meltzer - kevinm (at) yetanother.org.Re:I edit ... it's my function

Thanks, Yoz. I'll contact Kevin.
