cabes writes "Jeffrey E. F. Friedl has just published the second edition of his book, Mastering Regular Expressions (O'Reilly). It's an entire rewrite of an already wonderful book. Added: HTML parsing examples, Java, .Net, etc."

to start work on the 3rd Ed's coverage of Perl 6 RegEx's.

Yeah. It's been mentioned on Slashdot that this book doesn't cover Perl 6. Of course, Perl 6 isn't out yet so I can see why it was omitted. Why try and discuss the work going on in P6 when parts of it can change between the book's release and the release of Perl 6.

Quite frankly, I agree with you. Let the P6 regexp engine be handled after release. Heck, it will probably require a book all of its own! ;-)

I can see it now...3rd Ed will cover Perl 6.2 ('cause 6.0 only lived 2 weeks before everyone screamed it was too buggy to use. Even Jeffrey couldn't get it too work. So he waits for 6.1, writes the new edition and does a last minute test when 6.2 comes out).

By the time most people get the book, 6.4 will have fixed most of the problems he referred to. Everyone will continue to say "It's a great book, but a little out of date."

I think, if you even suggest that again, that Jeff will likely hunt you down and slaughter you in the dead of night, and use your entrails to fertilize his flower-garden.
