The Perl Foundation, the organization under Yet Another Society which operates for the purpose of promoting use and development of Perl, has launched its web site and fund drive today.
The Perl Foundation consolidates authority and responsibility for Perl Mongers, Perl Monks, perl.org, Perl Development Grants, Yet Another Perl Conferences, and copyright issues regarding Parrot and Perl 6.
The Foundation is beginning drives for two Perl Development Grants, for Dan Sugalski and Damian Conway, totalling USD175,000 (USD60,000 each for stipend, USD20,000 each for travel, and USD15,000 for adminstrative overhead). Conway received the first Perl Development Grant, USD75,000 for 2001, working on myriad projects, including Perl 5 modules and design of Perl 6. Sugalski plans to continue his work on Perl 6 implementation under the grant.
